The location in Lower Saxony will be strengthened in the course of the takeover by expanding the machine park: the investment plan provides for 20 million euros, a large part of which will be invested in Hamelin.

  • Leveraging synergy effects and opening up new markets
  • Investments in the Hamelin site are planned
  • Acquisition of all shares

Hamelin, 01 February 2022 – Consistent further development under new ownership: Melior Motion GmbH is now part of the Schaeffler Group and intends to drive its growth forward. The automotive supplier is taking over 100 percent of the shares. With the official closing today, the sale is legally binding. All of the more than 100 employees at the location in Lower Saxony will be taken over, and the management team will also be retained. With the acquisition, Schaeffler is strengthening its robotics division, while Melior Motion is benefiting from the global positioning of the automotive and industrial supplier.

“With the change of ownership, we are opening up completely new market opportunities for Melior Motion,” says Chris Morrell, Managing Director of the company. All employees at the Hamelin site will be taken over. The company will initially continue to operate under the same name, and the management team will also be retained.

Increase in production capacities planned

“This development gives us a positive outlook for the future. We will significantly expand our production capacity in 2022 – both in Germany and in China,” Morrell explains Melior Motion’s goals. In 2021, the company achieved a turnover of around 23 million euros.

The company wants to continue this positive development. The location in Lower Saxony will be strengthened in the course of the takeover by expanding the machine park: the investment plan provides for 20 million euros, a large part of which will be invested in Hamelin. “The acquisition results in a win-win situation: Schaeffler strengthens its robotics division and Melior Motion benefits from the existing infrastructure and can initiate a further accelerated growth phase thanks to Schaeffler’s global positioning and, in particular, its ability to scale the business,” says Morrell.

Manufacturer of innovative precision gears

Melior Motion, which was founded in 2017 as a spin-off from Stephan-Werke, has more than 35 years of experience in the production of precision gearboxes. A patented mechanism makes the drive solutions from Hamelin unique: they are particularly precise, durable and energy-efficient. Thus, the innovative gearboxes enable precise positioning as at the beginning, even after a longer period of use, and thus clearly stand out from other drive solutions.

Managing Director Morrell summarises: “The acquisition is good news for our customers, employees and stakeholders. We will strengthen our position in the market and continue to grow.”
