End of 2018, Melior Motion held an open day for customers suppliers, financial partners, state representatives and employees, where company owner Mr Karan Thapar formally opened a new production facility for the manufacture and assembly of its new range of PSC High Precision gearboxes, designed specifically for demanding applications in the Robotics and Automation industry.

The PSC product range, itself the result of a €4m R&D project, incorporates a planetary gearbox with high load integrated bearings, having a unique and patented backlash reduction system. The product combines the highest Precision with almost Silent operation, and a very low backlash which remains Constant over its lifetime accuracy, (P S C). These features are all “best in class”, offering superior performance to existing technologies available in the market.

The production facilities represent an initial “phase 1” investment of €7m, incorporating new manufacturing processes housed in climate controlled areas to ensure consistent quality for applications where very high accuracy tolerance class required.

In addition, a new state of the art assembly line has been designed and implemented, enabling rapid assembly on a production-line basis, for maximum efficiency.

The new facility will add an annual capacity of 25,000 gearboxes to the existing products manufactured by the company. Due to the high demand which the company has received for its new product line, a “Phase 2” investment is already under consideration, with a view to adding a further 25,000 capacity in 2020.

Managing Director Mr Chris Morrell stated that “the open day has been a great success, enabling our customers and suppliers to see the scale of investment and growth plans that are putting in to action. This facility has many firsts, not only a new technology of product, but also new manufacturing technologies not seen in this combination anywhere in the world”.
